cleaning out soot

Post by GregR » Sun Sep 17, 2006 4:47 pm

as posted elsewhere, the new exhaust manifold has a lip of soot in each of the 4 pipes. Should I clean this? Is it a lip of soot at all or is it summit thats meant to be there?

Greg,

Can you re-size the photo - I can't see a blinking thing.

Cheers

Clean it if it makes you feel better - if not, leave it :D

That's not soot, it's welding clag I think ... If you want to take at my spankers land rover part (parked at Hoymotorsport) you'll see the difference between the two.

Can you post a picture of the whole manifold ...

Cheers,
Robin

can't get the sodding thing uploaded....

Anyone suggest another image hosting site?

Also, if you have the S2 flexi & Manifold, is that all you need? only reason I ask is that in my mind's eye, once the manifold is connected to the flexi the bend to the cat is on my left (as I'm looking up at it hypothetically fitted) Isn't it on the right on the S1 flexi?

:? Confused

S2 Cat won't work with an S1 rear box as the cat on the S2 has the 90degree turn where as on the S1 the turn is on the exhaust.

Not 100% sure about this - but I thought the bend was there okay (looks to be in the pics). The S2 cat is different, sure, in that it has an additional length of zorst with a bend - but I thought that went to the backbox side, not the flexi side....

Or does the zorst turn the other way in the S2? (which would be odd, but not out of the question)

So, pre-cat, it's the flexi section that has the 90 deg bend, not the Cat section - yes?
