Scottish Elises

I am currently replacing my cylinder head gasket and need to get the cams off (K-series), does anybody in the Aberdeen area have the tool I could borrow or does anybody else know of an alternative method?

You don't really need it just to remove the head IMO. Slightly confused though as you say you want to remove the cams, in which case you have no use for the tool.

I have one anyway but it's in Ayrshire. Was only £4 from a local tool place.

We might be talking about different things, I need to hold the cam in position, to remove the bolt holding it to the cam shaft so I can remove the plastic cover around the timing belt so I can split the engine. Not the wee rectangular(ish) wedge that sits between the cams to stop them rotating.

You don't need it if you're resourceful.

If you're changing the timing belt anyway you can sacrifice the belt. Release the tensioners and then clamp the belt to itself between two pulleys with grips/clamps/something so it can't move. If the belt can't move, the cam sprocket can't rotate. Then get a socket and long bar on the bolt.

If going this way make sure pistons are level, I stripped the teeth from a belt recently.
