Apologies for hijacking this thread, but my S1 still has the original rubber mats bonded to the floor, should I remove them because of the corrosion problems I have read about?

Yiou might be able to feel the lumps and bumps through the mats rather than lifting them if they are still stuck down

I would I did my floor last year and it was a horrible job

I think it is made worse if you have car mats as well.

Did you check that there weren't any full perferations through the aluminium before it was applied? I suppose even a pin prick would be enough.
I had the rubber mats when I got mine. I lifted them and scraped all the glue and corrosion off then sprayed with wd40. I was fed up of working in teh foot wells after scraping the floors so left it there.

Its not really got any worse since.

Ta,
MMC did my S1 a few years ago. My floor wasn't too bad but when I looked at it it looked like they had gone pretty hard at it with a grinder before applying what appeared to be a clear varnish.
I wonder if I still have the pics?....
Just had a look and I only have the before shots
@thesurfbus you probably should lift the mats as mine didn't feel too bad at the time but as you can see it wasn't pretty.

lotus used to fix this problem by cleaning the corrosion and then glueing a new floor into the footwell
dont know if they still do it
