Post by Dipper » Mon May 13, 2013 6:20 pm

went to fuel up the barrel came oot wi the key along with broken bits of plastic! the barrel looks like its missing some bits as well. fortunately i picked a petrol station with a garage attached and the got the cap off with a screwdriver!

im guessing ill need a new cap with a barrel and therefore a new key?

We discovered on one of the frolics that the 3 exige convoy we were in any of the ignition keys fitted the fuel filler caps so you will hopefully not need to bother with a different key for the fuel cap only. I've not explained that very well but hopefully you catch my drift

I seem to recall being told there are only about 7 different options for the petrol cap keys so there is a 1 in 7 chance that your ignition key will work in the new cap lock - predictably mine didn't when it was replaced.

Will definately be trying my ignition key in the petrol cap, I'm sick of jabbing myself in the leg with it hanging down from the ignition

IF the s2 fuel filler cap is a threaded type like an S1 version? sorry I don't know the differance
then you can get a genuine VW Locking fuel cap off e-bay for a few £ and cut off the raised reinforced coller off the bottom of the outer part of the cap~ this would foul with the bodywork on an S1 you then end up with a cap which locks / unlocks with a single 180 degree turn of the key which still locks tight enough to give you the gas hiss when you unlock it
