the roof vent on the exige, is that there just for cosmetics? the reason i'm asking is that i've noticed that there seems to be a piece of solid plastice behind the mesh. any Ideas? i thought the the idea of the vent is to allow air to flow into the engine bay. :?

s2 - cosmetic
s1 - does stuff

If you look at your roof inside you will see that it follows the profile of the outside surface, you`ll see it is no thicker where the vent is....

edited to add - I am sure the mesh vents on the engine cover allow enough air in. Some S1 exiges had the glass rear enging cover and no doubt needed the intake air for cooling.

IIRC S2 Exige S it is the intercooler intake

air does actually pass through the vent into the engine bay but what it does i have no idea. It has been suggested it draws hot air out but dont quote me on that!! :D

Either they changed it between 05 and 04 model years, or you`re tripping - beneath the mesh is solid black plastic on my car. :D

nope, you;re right JJ - normally aspirated Exige intake is purely cosmetic.

Must be true... Clarkson said so ;)

It could be argued that the S2 one "does stuff" and the S1 doesn't :)

IRRC it's blocked off to let the air circulate better inside the engine, so it only goes in and out of where it's designed to ensure best cooling. Kind of like PCs that overheat if you leave the side cover off.

erm..... so why's it there?

S1 is connected to the bay and does flow cooling air to keep bay temps down.

One might ask what's the point of a door if it's closed? :)
