Cat Bypass Pipe + MOT
MOT is due in the next couple of months, and was wondering whether I would need to put the Cat back on for the MOT.
Consensus on the Rover 25 forums seems to be mixed, might just stick it in and see what happens.
Engine is a standard S1 K series (with obligitory Exhaust, CAF and 52mm TB).
Thanks Doug

I thought think you would need the Cat in place for an MOT.
Re: Cat Bypass Pipe + MOT
Not necessarily as the under tray does not have to be taken off, so parts underneath can not be checked.
N3 has just returned from its MOT without a CAT, normally it would not pass without it, but the tray was mentioned on the certificate. MOT garages can differ in their outlook substantially.

From my K series experience you will need it else a friendly garage and a case of beers on the front seat.

Without a cat the K-series will not pass as at idle.
Thats why I have to put my cat back on every year for it's MOT

Mot Garages now wont remove anything for inspections as then they are liable for the work.
I got a few "cannea see" comments on my exige.
Provided it passes the exhaust test, you should be ok, unless the db level from the exhaust is excessive then they may have an issue with it for another reason ?
Best just put the car in, and see, worst case is a re-test.
My test garage always try their best to 'help' things through the emmissions...

I heard on the radio this morning that you can get your cars emmisions tested for free at Asda Stration today, so might pop round and see what they say.
Exhaust isn't too noisy, and if anyone asks it has a 'sports cat'.

Cool, let us know how you get on, whether it was a pass, near pass, or if the transport police arrest you as soon as you roll off the tester .

Re: Cat Bypass Pipe + MOT
I had my car tested on Friday, and it failed.
CO was 0.7% and HC was high but still a pass @2500 rpm.
Looks like I will need to refit the CAT to convert the carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons to CO2 and water vapor!
