New Wheels.
New Wheels.
Not a synecdoche, actually new wheels.
The banger is in the garage getting an MOT and I've been driving the Elise, and enjoying it despite the weather. So when I saw some wheels on SELOC with rainsport tyres I bought them on a whim.
(Can you see where this is going?)
The car is normally on OZ wheels with 888s. Now the new rear wheel is audibly fouling on the bodywork. Are they not all the same? Have I bought the wrong ones? (The seloc wiki shows them having the same PCD and offset etc and the tyres are the same size).
They are Rimstock 6 spokes. Any ideas what I'm missing?

Re: New Wheels.
What size are the tyres? And how low is the Elise?
Eta, with that car is it not easier just to remove more bodywork?

Re: New Wheels.
Same size tyres. (225/45?). The wheel arch liner is one of the good bits!

That's really kind but we're away (going to see a panto on the East coast. No we are. And there's nothing behind me.)
It'll have to keep ;(

Re: New Wheels.
Different offsets between k series and toyota rear wheels. Not sure if that is the issue or not.

Thats a lie and you know it
Re: New Wheels.
sounds like you've got a toyota car and have bought k series wheels? i think the offset is 20mm.
Re: New Wheels.
I've got some standard spare S2 K-series wheels here you can experiment with.
Assuming you've bought these:
http://wiki.seloc.org/a/S2_Wheel_Option ... ck_6-spoke
Then they would be the same as my spares which do not foul the clams, though I haven't driven far on them ever because the wheel bolts are different - OK to hold the car up while the proper wheels are away but not OK to drive on I think.
The standard K-series wheel bolt:
B117G6000F Wheel Bolt, socket hd. 25mm thread
The 135R wheel bolt:
ALS2G6011F Wheel Bolt, hex. hd. 29mm thread
I don't think that the 135R bolt holds the standard 111 wheel properly.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: New Wheels.
Cheers Robin.
Yes that is the answer, those bolts don't look right and although a socket would turn them it was a snug fit...
Why do I bother? Why? I should just buy a new car and NEVER TOUCH IT.
(Wheels and tyres were a good price. Less good when I add in centre caps (OZ ones don't fit), a set of wheel bolts plus key...

Re: New Wheels.
I've got 12 standard wheel bolts lying about from my S2 111s if that helps, you just need 4 more bolts from someone else.
I've have got the 4 locking nuts, but 2 are chewed up and so is the locking socket so they aren't much use.

(Off to search through drawers, I know I have some old bolts somewhere)

Re: New Wheels.
The correct bolts are a couple of quid each. I wouldn't mess around with anything else, if I were you ...
Cheers,
Robin
ETA I seem to remember somebody saying that BMW wheel bolts would work but I cannot remember if that's the standard wheels or the Oz wheels.

Re: New Wheels.
Right.
The new wheels were cheap and came with tyres so I won't lose anything but it was a GOOD PLAN and I will not be beaten. Despite the fact that centres and bolts add a cool 50% to the price. (Thanks Ian for some bolts and I'll make centres if I ever get them to fit.)
I changed the bolts. They rear still catches on the pax side.
I took the wheel off. And put it back on. With new (to me) bolts.
Still catching.
I put the old backs back on. No noise. I gave up on the new wheels and put the old fronts back on too.
BEATEN. This can't be that fu.cking hard. A mechanic I am not.

Dropped it off at MMC to get the brakes done and dropped my new wheels off to to ask why the f.uck they don't fit.
Handbrake cable fouling.
