Ticking / whirring

Obviously had the reconditioned steering rack fitted recently, and new track rod ends, but car is still making a weird noise when manoeuvring at low speed. Only happens on full right hand lock. Best I can describe, its like an odd ticking or whirring sound, and stops the minute you wind the lock off...

Does the noise go away if you put a little bit of pressure on the brakes at same time? If so then chances are it's the pads moving about/getting lifted by the disk and slapping the caliper.
Do you have braided brake lines fitted? If so they may not be routed correctly and are hitting a wheel weight.
Could also be the tyres touching the clam depending on ride height and tyre.
Cheers,
Robin

You bought Marks old car - i'd almost put money on it being ride height or suspension related

Do you have grooved discs?

Yes to the grooved discs, braided lines and quite low ride height. Only happens when turning right though... Will investigate tonight applying a bit of pressure to the brakes at the same time.

Look carefully for witness marks on the wheel weights and braided hoses. You do not want to risk wearing through one of these hoses.

Ride height wasn't terribly low 105-115 I think on S2 LSS, has Stu Discs and braided lines fitted by SLS, I did have a hose burst before on KH going into the harpin, arrrgh! Was also on RS14 pads all round... Check a wheel arch liner hasn't moved out of place by looking for rub marks on liner or clam, brake lines are a deffo check as scary when they go!

Will do, thanks mark!
(PS - changed to mintex pads cause I hated the pagids)

That ride height is pretty low!
Pagid rs 14 are track pads. Rs42 much better. But mintex 1144 are a close sub, and cheaper.
I had ticking from a braided line years ago, and more recently from a proud wheel weight - but latter was not dependent on full lock. Braided lines absolutely must e tethered up properly to avoid chafing. The inner rubber won't take pressure without the braiding

I've had it after getting tyres fitted where the y have put the wheel weight to close to the caliper and it was catching. That was on an S1 mark you with less clearance than the S2.

Yep, happens to me each time I get wheels shod whilst off the car, ie rather than delivering the car, IYSWIM! Fitter has no way of testing / noticing in the former case so I just get my file out when I get em home

Don't worry about the ride height, I run the same without issue and plenty others run lower.
