Bolt in Harness help

Post by mikeyb13 » Thu Oct 25, 2012 12:28 pm

Hi All

Looking for some advice on fitting a set of harnesses to the Elise.

Iv'e got a nice set of Schroth harnesses that I am looking to fit to the Elise using a bolt on harness bar but the harnesses have snap in brackets as opposed to the bolt on ones I need. Schroth sell various types bolt in bracket but Im not sure which ones would fit the Elise Harness bar and Seat best.

Can anyone who has a bolt in harness either take me a picture of the brackets supplied with Lotus specific harnesses and how it attaches to the bar and seat or if theres someone local with them fitted can I pop round for a look?

If you already haev the harnesses then how are you going to change the end fitting? They are usually sewn in - no?

Nope not on these. The ends are a loop folded through a bar and a slider so easy to change.

I ended up going that way in case I had a situation where I wanted to keep the three pointer in and occasionally remove the shoulder straps to stop them getting in the way. Ended up taking out the three pointer anyway. Much less hassle going that route and keeping the removability if you do intend to keep the three point in there.

I have the 3 point seatbelt & harnesses in mine. Gives the flexibility and advantages of having both; harnesses can be a PITA when popping to the shops etc... but are great on track / longer drives.

I've always fancied a set of harnesses in mine but I have always been wary that they will rest on the seats before me.

You get used to them pretty quick but passengers moan about them - especially when you pull the lap belt really tight...
I'd go with jsut the 4 points or you'll never use them...

I fancy them too but I think that the harness bar will stop the seats going all the way back and with my freakishly long legs I need the seats to go as far back as they can. (In fact I could really do with them going back further.)

Does anyone have them fitted to an S2 who knows if the harness bar restricts the seat going all the way back? (Alan - tenkfeet - had them in his and the harness bar definitely got in the way of the seats but I think there may be different types of bar).

I would never use harnesses without having proper seats.
