lost key
Re: lost key
Luckily the 340R has exactly one lock so you can easily buy a new lock and barrel (perhaps off some other elise from a scrap yard) and be done with it.
In the meanwhile you can remove the old barrel and use a screw driver to turn the ignition on/off.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: lost key
Can he contact lotus for a new set of keys?
He needs to disable the steering lock to put it for a geo. Apparently a wee screwdriver starts the car no bother.
I've sent him what he needs to do but opening an attachment on an email might as well be rocket science. Like my Dad - if you can hammer it, cut it, glue it or mow it then it's fine. Pushing buttons in a specific order on a keyboard is like asking him to juggle with his feet.

Re: lost key
You can remove the barrel, there is a little pin you push (quite hard to see) and the barrel slips out but .... to do this i'm pretty sure you need to have the key in and the steering lock off.
Next option would be to hammer off the bolts (they have heads that shear off to stop dodgers simply un bolting the lock assembly and steeling your car). This would be difficult to do in place so might be easier to remove the column and do on a bench.
Complete pain in the arse,
Alan - BEST OF LUCK
P.S You can buy a complete lock set from Lotus, but comes as a barrel and two door locks.
P.P.S The car has no immobiliser, so you can remove the ignition switch (other end of barrel) and use a screw driver to start the car.

Do you want to ask the ex if she will give me the spare key? You could try looking harder for the keys...if you are like me....they will be right in front of you!!!
