Lambda alternatives...

OK car is on sticks awaiting a Lambda sensor, does anyone know what will happen if I fit the old sender back in without conecting it to fill the hole? (Alternative to the sender is an old spark plug) I assume it will have to run open loop and will be odd at idle, will it do any harm?

OK got an answer from 'COCK and I'm going to have a go with a sparkplug to fill the hole for now. Apparently it will run a bit rich (more power?) but it won't do any harm for a little while.

When does it go open-loop BTW? and how much would a wide band cost? I take it that its $$$!

Copper plate cut to size crimped into the end of the old one, job done, no leaks!

Open-loop is whenever you're on heavy throttle and during throttle transients. Closed loop is mostly cruising on the motorway and perhaps idle (though idle has a whole bunch of other stuff to deal with as well).

I don't think you'll damage the car running without a lambda though you may damage the lambda itself.

Copper plate solution sounds ideal :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Lambda is well and truly history, the end came off an dsmashed into a thousand ceramic (And undoubtedly toxic) fragments. Lawrence may well have one I can fit this w/e :thumbsup
