Just a quick ask about if anyone has a head they don't need and would be willing to part with?
Failing that - what cars can I nick one from at the scrapper? I've been on search here, SELOC and the DVA pages. I saw the info once but for the life of me I cant find the page again.....

Re: K head wanted.
Look out for rover 100/200 heads on e-bay, just learn to identify high port and low port.
My Elise head cost me £20 as it was advrtised as a Rover 100 1.4 head.

I did have a good look about and thought about that too. Identifying the different heads seems straight forward (he says full of confidence....
).
My engine has blown its gasket 3 times in less than a few thousand miles. Once before I had it. Once last year and then again now. When I had it done last I asked them to check the liner heights and was told they were fine. 'If' they are ok then I can only assume the head is soft - hence the question.
I've spent the last week reading up on the options available to me and, off the back of this thread:
http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... hp?t=31039
by Giles I fired off a few emails. If anyone is looking to get an engine the only place that have come back to say they can is http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk. I'm going to call them back tomorrow to see if prices are wild or not.
Nearly all the converters came back saying they are hardly doing any conversions at the moment and if they are the engines are already spoken for. There are a few websites saying they can supply an engine but most came back saying no dice.
I suppose the smart move would be to pull the head and check the liner heights first. If they are low or uneven then I think I may have to go down the whole engine route. I need to teach myself how to do that though..... Power increases are not the main driver here but Woodys head option feels like the way I want to go.

Re: K head wanted.
Talked to Richard Watson at PTP this afternoon.
Prices for a new replacement engine are as follows:
Complete - standard engine: £1,095 + vat.
Standard engine with cams to bring it up to 140bhp: add £311 + vat.
Get the head ported and polished approx: £500 (ish).
Beyond that you can ask for anything you want really.
He tells me it's a brand new 1.4 block with a new crank and all the liners and other gubbins to spec it to 1.8. I think this is how the 1.8 K always was though?
It is a new engine - not reconditioned.
He also says the new parts required are getting thin on the ground and they would not be able to build more than a few more like this before parts get scarcer and this would eventually drive prices higher (not sure how much of this is sales talk but it makes sense).
So a new engine, hopefully built the right way, at a nice power level for about £2,300 + delivery + fitting if you don't want to DIY.

Re: K head wanted - now got. Anyone got any cams/verniers?
A deal has been done for a head.
Smee was sharp and got a good deal on some cams and verniers which got me thinking. Does anyone have a set knocking about they would like converting into cold hard cash?

I've got a pair of PTP RT Sport cams. Good for 170bhp with that head.
Drop me a PM.

Hi Dan,
Do you happen to know what the correct timing for those cams should be?
Cheers,
Robin
