heat shield?
Could somebody post a picture of the heatshield at the back of the engine bay (nearest the driver) for me please. i think mine is missing and may be why I'm smelling melting plastic.
Checked for plastic bags or exhaust touching clam etc but any other suggestions welcome. The parcel shelf bit behind my seat gets too hot to touch after about 30 mins driving.

s1 111s (kind of)
S1 or S2?
Mine is utterly shagged, but I'll take a piccie if you want...
Melting plastic could be lambda sensor wires or the alternator....
Edited, I have just read your sig, I'll get a pic...

I know that Lotus charge you an eye watering amount for one... Maybe try the likes of Eliseparts first for breaking cars....skellyjohn wrote:Cheers for the picture.
I don't appear to have a heat shield! The bracket is there so maybe it shouldn't be too big a job to get one and fix it on.
Getting it on will be a job of swearing and fibrelgass impregnated hands/arms (wear gloves)
Might be easier if you undo the engine steady bar on the bottom and pull the engine out of the way a bit. Would be easier with two bods, I'll wager....

I will be replacing mine with a piece of eiter Ali or Stainless depends what I can get my sticky mitts on. I can't believe that that fiberglass makes much difference TBH. But my exhaust will be heat wrapped though so the temps *should* be lower anyway

You can get the proper bubble-wrap-alloy stuff like what they use on the S2 exhaust heat shield. This stuff is a reflector and needs an air gap between the exhaust and it as well as the bulkhead. Fd on SE made a shield out of it when he switched to the 4:1 manifold.
