Scottish Elises

Took the car outthis morning only to find I had no clutch and couldn't get it into a gear after a bit of wangeling I got it in reversed then couldn't get a forward gear popped the front and back and had a look but everything looked normal. Got in again and it worked.

Don't want to get stuck, any idea's ?

Bleed the line first. However it may very well be the release arm seizing however and getting it that bit warmer freed it off - for now...

My Elise clutch fork siezed once. Clutch worked once then stopped.
See if you can get down the back and free it off?

Also check for fluid on the bottom side of the slave/actuating cylinder with your fingers. When I was having intermittant clutch issues it was the seals on the cylinder giving up, but from the top it looked fine.

Was working fine but today it failed and I waved her off as was taken away on a low loader.

The slace cylinder was moving but the clutch wasn't disengaging, the AA man bled it and made it worse so that it wouldn't disengage at all.

Does any know whats up and if it is covered under parts and labour ?

Well bugger me with a banana, exactly what I dreamt last night but turned out that my left foot had dropped off.

I will pass on the banana buggering, your just not my type. I also have a left foot so that's covered . Looking at the terms and conditions the only thing that's not covered is wear to the friction plate.

I'm betting it'll be like mine, the release arm is stuck and holding the clutch out.

Exactly the same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. While driving, and halfway through a gearchange, the gearstick would not engage into any gear, and would only move about in the neutral position. Intermittent problem, so I booked the car into MMC for anaylisis.

I needed a new clutch.

Release bearing buggered would be my shout, unless the release arm has jammed and sheared (you said it looked like it was moving normally, yeah?)

When the engine wasn't running changing gear was as it should be up nice and easy. After the AA man bled the system the car would drive off with the clutch fully depressed and it was a pig trying to get it in or out of gear ( I used the jump up and down like a muppet in the drivers seat method.)

If the CRB is knackered or there is any damage then you are covered by P&L, it's only plate wear that is not covered.

The next question is what else to do at the same time ?

Lightened flywheel if you have one lying about or fancy spending a couple of hundred quid to constantly stall. Check integrity of crankshaft main seal - leave it alone if it's fine though.

Stu did lighten (and do a basic balance on) standard flywheels for not a huge outlay if you feel you must do something - I have mine done and it does make a small difference. I wouldn't go drilling it up myself without knowledge of how much can safely be taken off, as if it shatters... well - I don't have to point out what's in the firing line and it'd be like a bomb going off...

Might also be worth sticking in the Eliseparts clutch release lever - it has a grease nipple on it, so you can take measures to stop it seizing in the bottom bush.

Nipple and bush in one sentence - my work here is done...

My lightened flywheel was no bother - but it was free with the CR box.... I wouldn't have bought one seperately though.
