It's the great tyre debate again

I've always used 48's on the Exige but looking for experience/advice on the alternatives?

The rear's will be due for a change shortly, I use the car both on road and track all year round apart from when it snows

R888 are slighly cheaper than 48's, some say better in the wet others don't agree, dry running again it seems to be down to personal preference

AD08's are new on the scene, but the fronts would have to go up to 205 and as the Exige was primarily designed to run on 48's, would the AD08's make a big difference to the handling overall?

Planning to head to Oulton in November so taking into account the weather we get from Oct-Mar something with a little more tread might be the way forward?

They only definitive answer is to try them yourself and see which ones you prefer.

I would start by giving the R888's a go.

Give AD08 at shot, i have them on just now very happy with them!
205's front

feel confident in the wet, and are straight up better than AO48s in wet and before warm

+ i got a full set for 477 from ears

R888's seem to be every bit as good as A048s, although the i find the A048 more predictable when sliding.

For all the difference you are going to notice (not just you - anyone!) I'd go with either.

In the rain, they have WAY more grip than you'd believe but you need to remember the laws of physics and avoid standing water and some white lines (as you would on track!).

No experience of a non R tyre on the road, although drove Bennys SC on Frolic, and the tyres werent as grippy - didnt make them any less fun though

888's and 48R's are full track tyres with 5mm tread. I have always used them in the past few years after everybody took the piss out of my Stunner Scudos, but I am now going over to AD08's, an in-between compromise but will definitely be better in the wet, and at 8.5mm tread will last far longer. I do not stay out for 45 mins anymore, so they should last half that before going off.

I could not get them this time, out of stock, but DemonStreaks gave me Toyo R1R's, 6.5mm for the same price. Not tried them on track yet, but great in the wet on the road.

Can't help you with the debate, but just to say I will likely have a full set of part-worn A048's available in the near future, if of interest to tide you over

i have 48's up front and r888's on the rear and find them fine, very similar...but that’s what i was expecting as they are both semi's.......just remember to get a good bit of heat into them and you cant go wrong, problem in the wet is they lose heat straight away and are much more unpredictable, but I have found they are not really bad in the wet as long as you don’t start demanding a lot…….. standing water, we that’s a no brainer!

in saying all that, i am seriously looking at going for the AD08's for a change, as i haven’t tracked.....dont have any experience on them, but the extra wet confidence will be well received, just hope they are good in the dry also...looking at 205 front and 235! on the rear, besides camskills seem to of run out of r888's ...i guess you could try wheelsaround?

I have R1Rs. As good in the dry as A048s, better in the wet.

I need some rears soon as my 48s are on about 2mm. Dunno what to do either, I've never really thought 48s/888s were worth having on the road but the R1Rs might be a good compromise between the sticky tyres and AD08s.

Not sure how good an idea it is mixing 48s and R1Rs, thought it'll probably mean more understeer in the wet.

They are doing S1 fronts on special at £63 which I want, but no stock, no delivery date. Same with ADO8's.

Why the hell are they not making tyres that owners want?
