S2(2001) Wiper Blades
S2(2001) Wiper Blades
I need to replace my wiper blade and it seems quite tricky/expensive! Has anyone got any good links as to where to get one that is not too dear? Also, I assume I need to remove the small screw and the the little clip to replace the blade?

Re: S2(2001) Wiper Blades
Andy, blades are expensive for the S1/Early S2 wiper arm.
The best bet is to replace both the arm and blade for the later S2 type which costs around the same as just the blade for the earlier type. Not only that but the later style setup clears the windscreen much better and you have the option of fitting a wiper blade with a built in spray bar when your screenwash jets inevitably block up!

Halfords do a conversion bracket to convert from the old 'Japanese' type fittings to more conventional ones that looks like it should screw on where the current one sits at the wiper end of the arm. Made a half assed attempt to remove the current bracket but to no avail. Any idea if it is removable or is it bonded as well as screwed to the arm.
Cheers

Yes but you can buy the wiper arm from Lotus for ~£14 and the blade with the spray bar for ~£8.
Its from a MK2 Renault Espace.

Re: S2(2001) Wiper Blades
So, I am thinking I can then just replace the blade part then instead of replacing the whole arm?
My car doesn't come out of the garage much so perhaps I should keep the costs down if possible.

Re: S2(2001) Wiper Blades
If you have the early type arm with the pin and R clip the the spray bar type blade won't fit.
That's why you need the later style arm.
It's possible to convert the early arm but they aren't a great design so there's not much point really as the wiper performance will be poor compared to the later arm.

I didn't realise there were two S2 types, but I fitted an S2 type (no fancy spray tho) to my S1 and it's been a revelation, so I think it was a later one. Sourced from Eliseparts.

Made some difference.
Re: S2(2001) Wiper Blades
First mod I did was to fit the wiper and spraybar onto my series 1. Immense. I'd reccomend it to anyone.
Not sure if S2 had a better wiper system to start with but well worth the cash for my S1.

Re: S2(2001) Wiper Blades
So in summary S2's are better than S1's in many areas
Alternatively get your car to Murray's, Craig gave me my s2 wiper blade replaced for free (i think) - but then it did cost me £700 for other work so maybe not the cheapest approach overall.

Re: S2(2001) Wiper Blades
Another late s2 wiper arm replacement here - on both the s1 and the vx (which shares the silly R clip style arm).
On the s1, I fitted a spray bar from some citroen, bought for less than 4 quid and attached with a couple of, well, small cable ties...
The spray bar is superb. Wiper blade wise, I think i'm using a Vauxhall Zafira one on the Elise (need a regular blade for my cable ties to attach to) and a cheap tesco flat blade on the vx which is excellent.
For the ultimate in Elise wipers, you should also fit the VAG '10A' (I think) Wiper relay.
This does 2 great things - firstly, 1 or 2 less wipes when you use the spray (so no more spray, wipe, wipe, smear, smear some more)
and secondly gives adjustable intermediate wipe - turn on then off, turn on again and it remembers the time delay and wipes.
I picked mine up on eBay for a couple of quid using the Skoda part number.
