Scottish Elises

Just thougt a recent post on the above might be worth some discussion, not just because the lazy bast@rd part of me is unprepared for French Frolic but I am sure it will be an insight for those as technical as me!

So RC5 Carbon Lorraines have been gettIng rave reviews even better than some of the top spec pagids 1144 I think?

As for discs, Elise parts has some light weight S2 ones which look worth a punt, but then having looked at some previous posts there doesn't appear to be any clear favourites....

Thoughts?!

Robin will probably tell you that the cheapest std, non-grooved discs you can find are adequate, albeit with a quality pad like CL or Pagid.

But since the 135R shipped with drilled / grooved discs (I think?) I'd be tempted to find some similar to those. Have a browse on the EBC store first, then google or eBay for pricing

i bought a set of AP disc after about 2k miles in the 211 as the standard ones are made of cheese. Paid £500 for the fronts only.

A lot of money but then ive done 30+ trackdays and 2 racing seasons, and they are still good. I gone through about 6 sets of pads Cl rc 6.

I think you do indeed, Scotty. The trick is matching what you buy to what you need and being aware of race kit or "uprated" items which are not really necessary for road and occasional track use.

You are a good advert for AP, but then you probably use your brakes a lot less than the rest of us!!

As Scotty said, you get what you pay for, I have bells for AP rotors if you want to go the full monty, but the ap,s are not cheep( but they are WAY better, and last much longer, so are they more expensive??)

Or ebay is best for cheep and cheerfull, standard discs have gone up a lot in the last year!!

What ever you do stay away from EBC disks and CL RC6's, the disks just get eaten away very quickly.

Have gone for EBC discs and also RC5's, hopefully the latter won't eat discs as badly as the RC6s.....

they should last frolic.

Did you find anyone doing a good deal ?
I'm getting front discs and pads in next few weeks, had a look at prices the other week and it was either Elise shop or Elise parts were a bit cheaper on pads than most so was intended using them.

EBC+CL5 will be fine I'm sure.

Given that you are using road tyres I doubt you will kill a brand new set of disks on frolic. I don't think I could be described as a pussy on the brakes and egor is only on the second set of disks - I think they're standard Lotus ones as I bought them second hand from tenkfeet and cannot remember.

Never had a problem with brake disks at all on Frolics or Donkey with RS14's, but take some spare pads with you even if not new ones. Not tried the RC5's, but learnt my lesson of RC6's, believe they work on upgraded racing disks, but not on the ones that we use.

I now have MMC disks and pads all round on N3, as does N1.

I put RC5s and EBC discs on for Frolic 2 years ago... they're still on my car and will be Frolicing again this year...
