S1 headlamp bezel query

Post by 2F45T4U » Thu Jun 02, 2011 12:41 pm

Both the reflectors are rotten on mine so ive bought 2 new ones.
however out of curiosity i had a look at the lotus parts catalogue and saw it lists 'RH' and 'LH' as different part numbers. Eliseparts has sent me 2 of the same part. in the context it doesnt appear to mean 'RHD' 'LHD'

im presuming this has never been an issue before, but wondered what could possibly be different about them to list them as 2 separate parts.

Cheers

edit: having them actually out the box its pretty clear they are identical and cant be 'handed' ...but still curious.

It is LHD/RHD as the beam patern is different.
There is only one part number for the RHD lamps themselves so are not handed for the car.

Esprit uses the same (Bloody expensive) lamps
I used generic 5 3/4" units instead...

i wish id shopped around. Seeing the Valeo sticker convinced me i should have hunted for an alternative. However, with an MOT tomorrow and a weekend of sunshine ahead (hopefully) i started clicking and a day later they arrived with fresh Bilstiens, balljoints and TRE's.
'least its a nice day to be in the workshop.

Sounds like your car is going to feel really fresh this weekend!

If you are changing TREs, have you booked a geo check or are you doing pole and string by yourself?

No alternative that will fit directly - I've checked. Valeo also only produce them sporadically as it's only the Esprit and Elise that use them (And Renault 4 allegedly)
They look perfectly fine with a gap, I just sikaflexed them in.

Nah il do it myself. i bought myself an optical 4 wheel geo kit a couple years ago when i was sick of numerous 'mechanics' chewing nuts, threats, tearing gaiters and genereally not understanding what theyre trying to achieve.

the final straw was when i reversed out their garage and found i had 1/8 of a turn one way and about 1 1/8 the other.

rage

HPA Quadrotronic 4008

does toe, camber, caster, KPI etc. Reads in minutes on the digital display down to 0:05

they clamp onto the rim as apposed to sitting on the wheel. you rotate the wheel and set the run out using the tri-wheels on the clamps to make sure the gauge is totally parallel with the wheel (or at right angle to the hub i should say)

its quite old and it uses light beams instead of the lasers the newer ones have. It came with all the calibration gear bars+shims as well so i spent a full day getting it all bang on inc the span and zero of the camber /caster feedback positioners.

I use it all the time now. Every suspension job on every vehicle i have and chuck them on now and again if i get a wobble
