2002 Rover engine Elise 111S. Will not start. Alarm switches off OK. Turn on the ignitin. All appears in order with the dash showing the right lights etc, but when try to start the immobiliser/change up light comes back on and there is absolutely no actionon the start front. No starter motor, no fuel pump. Burger all.
Any ideas.
This is not my car. Posting for a friend who just bought it and the previous owner cannot help with the present issue.
The new owner will be on here shortly, as soon as he stops cussing....

If it is the same as the S1, it is a rubber covered button on the rear LH side of the engine bay.

Cheers for posting this for me Martin.
Battery seems ok, haven't measured the voltage from it but lights all work at a normal brightness.
Tried disconnecting the battery in the hope that this might reset the alarm/immobiliser but no joy.
The alarm seems/immobiliser seems to almost be stuck on and when you try to start the engine doesn't even start to turnover or anything.
It all seems pretty strange.

Found this series of posts which sounds very similar to my problem:-

Anyone know where the fuses are and which to check? I've only had the car 6 days so not too clued up on it!

Fuses are under one of the bonnet access panels. Cannot remember which. Check the manual. Which fuse may also be in the manual but if not pull them one at a time and see if any are US.

Check the 20A start/alarm/immobiliser fuse in the engine bay next to the ECU. You'll need to remove the rain cover (PITA) which means peeling back the carpet in the boot near the battery, undoing the two bolts (probably cap head, possibly normal 13mm heads) and then wrestle the rain cover out of the engine bay. This exposes ECU and a small set of fuses; check them all as I cannot be 100% I remember which one is the start/alarm fuse.
Cheers,
Robin

Yeah, what Robin said. Most likely that fuse.
If you get the rain cover off the ECU you will see two yellow 20A fuses. Check them both.

Cheers for the advice guys. I'm out all day today but will check everything you've said tomorrow and hopefully that will fix the problem.
Will keep you updated.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Did what Robin and Roadboy said to do and checked the 20A fuses in the engine bay beside the ECU and one of those had blown. Replaced it and the car started first time!
Also found that once of the front spots had gone, thought it was a blown bulb but turns out one of the wires had worn through. Replaced that and its now working perfectly.
So a very successful (and best of all cheap) weekend!
