Jumping out of Reverse

A Friend's son has just bought a 111S. The car appears to be good apart from the fact it jumps out of reverse, and the drivers door appears to be rattling on the striker post (if that was the only rattle in my car I would be soooo happy) ...I know the symptoms are a little lacking in detail re the 'jumping out of reverse' but any ideas..... :?:

Hi it's Ali at SLS, are all the other gears selecting fine? is it a VVC rover engine or the toyota 'S'? The striker pin is an easy fix, either buy the eliseshop upgrade kit (thicker pin) or wrap some insulating tape round the current striker pin as an intermediate fix.

It is definately a Rover engine and all the other gears are OK.
