Scottish Elises

I was very surprised when I had a drive in Jamie's car recently how much more initial bite the brakes had, and ever since have thought mine feel a bit soft. So, new pads in order I think as I am still on the Lotus ones. Everyone seems to rate Pagids, but which ones - the 14s or 42s? I have used EBC Greens on other cars in the past with good results, and they are half the price. Anyone tried these on an Elise/Exige? Any advice appreciated.

with pagids, the 14s are proper race pads. the 42s are a better all round. good braking from cold etc, less squealing.(and from my experience with ed's exige, get the 42s. they're worth the extra- provided you're not on a supertight budget)

Had 42s on Elise and Exige and would use no other!

Got Pagid 42's on mine from Eliseparts at the moment cant fault them but I think I'll try the SBS next time for a comparison as they are half the price.

If they are crap I'll blame Si for recommending them

Green stuff on Elise at the moment. Not tracked it though, but for road they are great.

Mintex 1144's are also not a bad fast road / occassional track alternative and half the price of the pagids.

Green stuff OK for the road but std pads are probably better as the green stuff have zero initial bite when cold and wet. Greens a good compromise for very light track work (and cheap!). Not used them but maybe SBS would be good for this application.

Any reasonable track work (and more important I think with the heavier, later cars) get Pagid 4-2, I currently have these on the Exige and ran them on the Elise.

For serious track work get Pagid 14s, similar price and higher operating temp range (I have overheated 4-2's in the past). I ran these on the Elise and they are excellent, just as good initial bite on the road IMO and the only downside is (horrendous) squeal when they glaze a bit. I will be fitting these next but with new disks...

Incidentally the current set of Pagid 4-2's on the front are the only pads I've ever had wear evenly indside/outside (they are identical). Normally the inside pads wear much quicker, maybe it's something peculiar to the servoed system (although I can't think what) or my calipers, disks etc....

Pagid 4-2 are the way forward.

I've had them smoking a few times, but thats been after stupid stuff. They are simply awesome and are still going after 10k!

Consistent fade free performance, the only time i've ever wondered about them was after a day of thrashing at EF earlier this year

Pagid 42's are just about the word for elise braking.

However - I think you'd best to progress on to them via greenstuffs.

The change from OE pads to greens is quite impressive as is the change from green to pagid - but if you don't take that intermediate step I don't think you'll be getting the best from them.

My 2p - go green and when you've outgrown them then go for the pagids.

My vote goes to SBS.
Never had Pagids but the SBS are much better than OEM and Greens (which are only just better than OEM). They are also almost half the price of Pagids.
They do squeal a bit tho at slow speeds so if you can get them with anti-squeal pads it might be worth it.

another vote for the 42s from me,

i agree with the pagid recomendations, but i easily overheated 42's on track, which means they wear out ridiculously quickly. have changed to 14's and there much better suited for my needs. Might go back to 42's in the winter though.

basically, go pagids but you might have to try both kinds to find the best on for you

Slightly sceptical about braided hoses based on past experience - do they make much difference on an Elise/Exige? I put EBC greens on my Westfield - big improvement; and then braided hoses - made no noticable difference at all.
