ECU Cover

A yes or no will do

Car wouldn't start today. Reason being the 20A fuses on top of the ECU had disintegrated- they're pretty open to the elements, which doesn't seem clever...am I right in thinking I'm missing a cover over this?

Definitely has a cover. It's a right bitch to get off too.
If you pull back the popper studs on the carpet, you'll find 2 alan key bolts. These loosens the plate that the ECU is mounted to. The cover slips between the back of the plate and the wall of the boot, and the is clamped in with the bolts.

If you can see the top of the ECU where the plugs go in when the boot is open then you're missing a cover.

If you pull back the carpet in the boot there should be two cap head bolts that go through the boot wall and clamp the ECU plate to the bulkhead. There's a plastic/grp rain cover that should be pinched between the ECU plate and the bulkhead that keeps the water off the top of the ECU.

If you do not resolve this, your ECU will fail due to water ingress.

The S1 uses a different connector that is inherently water tight, as is the ECU enclosure itself. I would guess the Rover MEMS is IP67 rated, though cannot be sure.

I would say the S2 connector counts as splash proof, as is the enclosure - it has a vent hole in the back that will allow moisture ingress and the wire crimps in the connector are only shielded by the splash cover integral to the loom plug. If water gets under these, it runs down the crimped terminals and pools in the actual connector. I've had one or two apart that have suffered from water ingress and typically there are signs of corrosion on the connector legs where they connect to the circuit board, so I assume that water can, eventually, run past the pins in the connector, though there is no hard evidence of that.

Anyway, we know from bitter experience that one way or another, if you run with the rain cover off, you end up in trouble ...
