headlamp brackets

Post by smee » Sat Jun 26, 2010 1:35 am

NS headlamp loose and wanting to fall in the way, mount seems corroded. Lamps themselves corroded and was going to change them anyway, are they supplied with new mounts or where can I get some? Is it an easy fix,can feel it throuh the arch.

Thanks

Elise parts sell brackets adn they are glued in with Sikaflex. Its a messy job but not too hard, jack up that side and pull the wheel arch liner for access.

Oh and do both, the other one will be close behind!

Cheers, was planning on doing both, the OS lamp looked the worse TBH I wasn't expecting the NS one to go first.

My headlight fell out during TT so I'm in the same boat. I notice EP do powdercoated mounts, the plates and adjusters too. The only bit I'm unsure about are the springs that push against the adjusters? Do you get them from Lotus?

Thought I'd post in here after doing one of my brackets.

The old Drivers side fell out during TT.

TBH the biggest pain was cleaning the old adhesive off the clam when working through a folded back arch liner.

After reading up, I put several coats of Hamerite on both the new bracket and the new lamp plate. TBH the plate that came off could have been cleaned up. I cleaned up and painted the clips and used new screws. The lamp itself is losing a bit of reflective material round the side light but generally it's ok for now.

And finally in place. The new brackets are glued on with tigerseal which was pretty messy. I've liberally applied vaseline on the threads etc to try and reduce any corrosion that would affect the adjusters. I've also fitted one of the rubber seals from EP as I was having problems with debris getting in behind the light cover, hopefully it'll stop that a bit but I think it might make the headlamp adjustment a little harder.

Just need to finish off and adjust the headlight, it's pointing a little high. :thumbsup

Nice work Ferg I came up with my own way of doing it.
1) buy all the crap you need
2) take it to garage and pay some other poor bloke to skin knuckles removing old crap
3) turn up once all hard work done and enjoy enthusiastic drive home

:D

Wish I had your patience

 needed a bit more patience tonight when I went to adjust the lamp and the whole assembly came off. The Tiger seal had stuck very well to the paint finish (yes the one I added) but it turns out I didn't key the paint properly and the paint finish didn't stick to the bracket.

Now re-glued and actually looks better. I've taken off the rubber seals I had added as they weren't helping the positioning at all. Hopefully it will all be still in place and set tomorrow morning.

:thumbsup
