Replacement U Bend Heatshield

Post by T6 KFR » Fri Feb 12, 2010 9:12 am

I have ordered new exhaust heat shield for the exige as they have started corroding to the point of having a rattle at idle.

Can anyone help as to how youy carry this out, any special tools needed or isit a simple swap after taking off rear diffuser??

Thanks in advance folks

From memory it's rivetted? Elaine's did the same and it got pulled off an thrown in the bin (thanks to the lotus part cost for a bit of pressed tin). Has caused exactly zero issues.

ive ordered my heat shields, but yeh seems a bit steep for 2 pieces of tin (44 quid each i think)

ah well, ill just have to DIY the job , think it will just require removal of rear diffuser

Yeah, they rust through and drop down - which you need to watch when you have a carbon tat diffuser...

There are 2 bolts from the underside through to the exhaust U-bend and wee self tappers round the edges IIRC.
The exhaust ones will likely be siezed...

Having binned the heatshield and not too impressed with heat wrap I've experimented with a ceramic coating.
Airbrushed on.

Probably mostly cosmetic in it's benefits...please excuse the condition of my lawn. ;)

Hey Ali,

i drove around without the heatshield for some weeks , after i installed the new heat shield with help from matt I thought it looked alot better through the rear grill. Hvaing the exposed pipe didnt really do it for me, although easier I agree

Your exhaust looks good though ...very jealous :thumbsup

Removed my shield yesterday. May buy this -http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p755/ ... 43a9211826 and bend to fit rather than the 'take the piss' £90 lotus want!!
