Dodgy S1 Electrics.

Post by Tom » Mon Jun 05, 2006 10:05 am

And so the troubles begin...

I have a problem with my lights. They all seem to work and are equally bright, but I can't flash (steady Shug). The high beam comes on when the headlights are on, but when I pull the stick towards me for the flash nothing happens. Lights work so not fuses. :? :?

Anyone experienced this??

Will be the stalk itself no doubt - mine was gubbed on my S1 also. Replacements from eliseparts were cheaper than local VX garage.

The problem with my stalk was the opposite to yours, it would flash full beams but not stay on full beam when pushed away, which is what makes me think yours is the same issue. Theres a bit about it on one of the FAQ sites.

New stalk ordered. Cheers.

Also, any point spending twice the money on polycarb driving light covers or are the plastic ones perfectly OK?? :?

I had a similar problem with this. My full beams would come on and stay stuck on with even the gentlest of touches on the stalk. Replacement stalk cured it.

They are very easy to change:

Undo the steering column cowling
Unplug the wiring plugs (2 plugs I think, maybe 3)
Squeeze the plastic retaining clips and pull out the old stalk
Push in the new stalk until it clicks into place
Plug in the wiring again
Screw the cowling back together

Doddle and dead obvious once you take the cowling off.

Yes they are the same, but think about it - one from a breakers is going to be from a 3yr+old Vaux, so it`ll be on its way out also. Its only about a tenner more anyway.

Will see if I can find a new one from vauxhall(bound to be cheaper than eliseparts).
