high temp in the exige

Post by craigs135s » Sat May 23, 2009 10:36 pm

Drove the exige down south today. All good on the way down parked the car at the house then went back out 20 mins later and the temps of the car went up to 100c. Had new ali rad and fans not that long ago. Noticed some coolant has come out the ex tank.any ideas why this would be? Seems to be fine again.

Cheers

Could be a faulty temp sensor? I see 100 C in my car in traffic, even seen 106 once, fans kick in a bring it down every time and no probs to date related to temps :thumbsup

i was going to say air lock as well. Does the temp fluctuate? Does it make a difference when you use heater radio or any other electrics? Re. The cap, id order one up anyway. Always good to replace every year or 2. 6 pound iirc

Hmmmm I should really listen to what I read... Sorry, any mayo in oil? An air lock may fluctuate the level, as the temp changes and air expands pressurising the sytem possibly forcing water out the overflow or cap?

Drove the car back to scotland to pick up the PUG temp was fine between 83 and 87 all the way. Checked the coolant when i got out the car way way down again. So No idea what is wrong with it. Keep thinking HGF but NO sign of MAYO in the oil cap.

Cheers

HGF doesn't always give you mayo.

Airlock doesn't always have to be HGF either.

Bleed the system, see where you stand.

Can a air lock just appear Shug? The new Rad was done about 6 months ago?

No, not really - there is always a cause. It just might not be HGF. Might be a pinhole somewhere, or a leak that has sucked some air in as it cools. I suppose technically, it should always push out under pressure, but there may be situations where a leak would suck some air in?

Coolant system isn't a speciality of mine  but that's as I understand it.

im no expert either and i dont want to keep banging on about this, but if the cap is knackered, is it possible that this is allowing the intake of air?
