Disc skimming

Post by Modena Scotland » Sat Apr 18, 2009 8:00 pm

Does anyone know of a place in/near Edinburgh where I can get the front discs skimmed?

:cheers

Excuse my total lack of knowledge on the subject but when/why would you get the discs skimmed?

I've just taken a full set of drilled discs that aren't too old off my car and wondering if I should sell them on after a skim, etc.

Thanks guys :thumbsup

Lewis, you need to skim the discs if the surface wear is uneven and rough. This usually happens when pads compound does not match the disc well or the discs get too hot for the tolerance.

Pagid RS14 and a few track sessions caused mine to need skimming (a case of the discs heating too much). What conditions are your discs?

Mass, if this is for the Exige you're much better off running 42s. If you're struggling with the brakes with 42s you need bigger discs.

Dan

I agree. I've taken the RS14s out and replaced them with EBC Red for now but defo need the skimming.

The RS42s only lasted me 3 trackdays (about 400 track miles).

BTW, did you get the Welder watch?

Yeah, I got the K-24 3001. Think they made a mistkae though and I got it a bit cheaper than it should have been. Scotty C tried it on at Donny on Friday but decided it was a bit big for him. :D

May be worth trying these new Carbon Lorraine pads if you're gonna continue to track the CR.

EBC Yellow are meant to be almost as good as the RS42's according to some of the folk on SELOC, I think Phil is running them too? I am running 14's on mine at the mo with no problems, a bit overkill but I got them cheap as chips...

When are you planning on being on track again? Might pop up for a catch up and some driving lessons
