Rover K series VVC 1600 size engine. To suit 1600 class regulations. Emerald controlled VVC, direct throttle bodies.

Where would the power restrictions be?

Discuss.

If your think what I think your thinking you wouldn't stand a chance in a 1600 Elise. Current class your looking at is A5 pretty much everything is lighter, faster and corners quicker. As for a 1600 with a VVC head, assuming you junk the VVC and switch to solid cams then 200bhp+ is possible but similar expense to a 1.8 i.e. not cheap. If your talking about keeping the VVC mechanism then I would think somewhere around 160BHP given that the 1.8 converted this way is about 180BHP.

Been thinking about doing some of the Scottish MRC Saloon and Sports Car Championship Class B. It's local, all be it knockhill, the only thing is it's only 2 x 10min races with warm ups.

You must mean class C, up to 2000cc or is the Audi turbo going in this winter.

I was under the misunderstanding that there was an "up to 1600" class. Obviously there is in Englandshire, but not at Knockhill. Regulations state, any block from the manufacturer may be used.

1600 Elise running against 1600 golf's and 205's and Saxo's would have been interesting. Looks like the caterinvans have there own class.

only issue with running in the SMRC is that you would be in a catch all grid. I was one of the reasons I went for hillclimbing instead of racing at KH. I don't much fancy being on the same track at 1.5 tonne supped up focus etc, being the mobile chicane and the lightest (most easily damaged) car on the grid.

To be honest, its unlikely I would get a budget to do it anyway.

More curiosity about the technical side of building a 1600 screamer than anything.

Exactly the same as a 1.8, but it revs harder (less stroke). Nothing that interesting...

I know the K is modular to a degree are the bores and cranks interchangable?

1.6 made from a 1.8 crank and 1.4 bores for a bit more grunt or 1.4 crank and 1.8 bores for a screamer...

Dont know for sure how the cranks / bore measure up, but dont think it works that way.

Give me a short stroke any day...
