help alarm knackered!!

ok guy's i got my S2 elise serviced yesterday at jude performance who confirmed that the alarm siren is knackered as i kinda suspected due to there being no noise when the alarm goes off (just flashing indicators and an imobilised elise).
now Dan had told me how to get into the siren to replace it which i attempted today - unsucessfully cos the siren isn't where we expected it to be. i removed the wheel arch lining from the front passengers side and although i managed to find a couple of fuse boxes and the horn i didn't see any sign of the alarm siren!
so here's my question - how can i fit the replacement siren? can anyone tell me either there the existing non functioning siren is? or alternatively which wires to splice into to power the new siren? i spent about an hour with an ampmeter trying to find the right wires but again was left thoroughly pi55ed off and my car still doesn't have an alarm which makes an noise. so any help would be very much appreciated cos i'm at my wits end now
many thanks

Ninja,
Stick your head into the passengers foot well (looking upwards) I think it's in there.

The S1's is under the dash, not in it like the actual alarm itself so no need to take anything apart. So fairly easy to get to (Lotus position) and change, just a couple of bolts hold it on.
I imagine it'd be a case of, disable alarm, disconect battery, swap siren, connect battery?
Do you have the new siren? Can I ask how much it cost? Mine's is shafted too. Not tooo bothered tho.

Have to ask, why bother?
When was the last time you paid any attention to an alarm siren? Most of the time it's people leaving dogs in their car that set them off so they're pretty much pointless.

I don't think it is as easy as you would like.
I cannot say where the alarm siren is on the S2 - if it's like the later S1 type then it will fitted on the passenger side up under the windscreen - I think it unbolts from the front services compartment.
It should be the self powered type that has a battery and will go off if you disconnect the harness or battery without first disarming the alarm.
Cheers,

I agree (obviously

) but what about for insurance reasons!? Surely it aint a 'fully' functioning alarm?

My service manual shows it located in the wheel arch area of the near side front...

definetely not in the front NS wheel arch area on my car
where is the alarm unit in the maintence handbook? cos that would do - not bothered about leaving the siren in place if i can find the wires to disconnect and reconnect hte new siren.

Just checked manual again Ninja, and it says siren can only be removed/accessed with the front clam off!
The module is located at the passenger side underneath the 'dashboard' and the dash top needs to be removed to get access....
Have a look in the wee grill beside the main front grill, you may see the siren up in there, I think I saw mine the other day..I think the horn is in the drivers side..I doubt you will be able to get access to it though to cut the wires etc..
