Wiper blade

Post by DavieK » Fri Mar 13, 2009 7:30 pm

Firstly ... sorry I've not searched for this but im on a timed computer offshore so hoping some kind person might be able to shed some light on this.

The wiper blade on our S1 seems to be over reaching at either end of its swing and scuffing the paintwork on the front clam. At first i thought it might be the length of the blade but it's 24" not 26" (think you can have either?) but i have found some play in the joint where the arm can be bent back from the windscreen ........ although with the drag on the windscreen itself i would have thought this would have made it travel less.

Anybody seen this before ?

Don't have that with either of our s1 wiper arms (1 on a vx...)

Assuming you have the silly S1 wiper arm with the expensive replacement blades, and it is the actual arm that is stuffed, you can buy an s2 wiper arm that will fit I believe, and you can fit regular clip on wiper blades from halfrauds. Some over on selcoc talked about Honda accord and Vauxhall meriva blades I reckon as they were good for the curvature of the s1 screen.

We bought the Lotus s2 arm+blade for about 25 quid (which considering an s1 blade is around 22quid is decent..) Ended up fitting an old blade I had sitting around though so not if it even fits / works well

I was just about to ask if there were any benifits to the S2 wiper arm upgrade or if it was just cheaper blades ... ok MUCH cheaper blades !

So Corranga are you saying the S2 wiper upgrade didnt work very well or just the fact that you had to fit an old balde didnt help ?

That the 40 quid one ? it says it comes with a new arm and sprey jets!! ... is this arm a direct replacement for the S1 arm and therefor needing the expencive blades next time it needs changing or will the normal blades fit it ?

the jets on the car work fine otherwise i might have considered fitting one of the arms with the built in spreys so to me thats just something extra to clutter up the already packed garage :)

nope the £60 one.

never really thought about the replacement blades when I bought it :D

It is a direct replacement, arm & blade, you have to drill a wee hole for the plumbing but the fitting is straight forward.

60 quid !!

all for being able to see where your going :)

not sure what I'll do, suppose first thing is to check where the blade fixs to the arm and make sure thats no damaged as i didnt check that before i went away.

Then do I either get a new blade or S2 arm and new blade for a little bit more

thanks for the replies I'll probably revive this when i get home and see if after a better look at the thing what needs doing.

I have just fitted the S2 arm and blade to my S1 which was cheaper than the original S1 rubber alone.
Whole kit from Kelvedon Lotus £19.42 when ordered online and fitted and great when used yesterday in the rain.

Cheers for the heads up on Kelvedon Lotus. Just ordered a wiper blade from them after returning one that didn't fit to Halfords at lunchtime!

Order and fit the S2 wiper arm. You can then get new blades next time in halfrauds etc.

What I was saying is that we bought one (for my girlfriends vx220 - which has the same wiper arm as the s1) We had to take the car somewhere and it was raining, couldn't be bothered changing the whole arm, so put my old s1 blade on. It was a lazy thing, I will fit the s2 wiper arm when the summer comes in, and probably buy another for my s1.

Someone might have removed your front bonnet before and not aligned it properly. The panel gaps from factory should be 4mm between the corners and the windscreen if they aren't then it may have been fitted again at some point. Worth checking even if you are replacing the wiper arm. Just changed mine, well worth it.
