Weird symptoms tonight .

Post by Jamie84 » Fri Feb 20, 2009 9:41 pm

Symptoms seem to have disappeared but would like to run this by the more clued up folk in case its anything I should worry about.

Driving home tonight from a rather tasty dinner , the car was behaving a little odd.

When I was accelerating on the M/way I was getting small blip , from the exhaust note , almost like a loud burble/pop I get on overrun , and a very small loss of power/drive momentarily , a small stutter if you like . This was happening each time I stepped back on the gas after coasting .

The car was also properly warmed up ( around 15mins and 86deg.) yet It was redlining at 5500rpm. 5 mins later redlining a little further up at say 6000 , then 6500. After a 10 min stop at supermarket , restart and seems fine :?

More concerned about the stutter to be honest this isnt a misfire is it ?

No MIL light showing either :?

Anything to worry about ? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like small misfires mate...

Have you checked oil levels etc?

System may have just got bogged down and the re-start was enough to clear it.

Worth getting the ECU read as sometimes faults can show without a MIL light (so i've heard).

check oil level pronto - 5k rpm limit, is normally indicative of safety mode, and can be caused by a few things.

Either way, if your oil level is fine, then probably want to get it plugged in to a diagnostic machine and get it checked out.

Service is overdue by around 400miles , will call Ali today and get it booked in ASAP. Will also get oil checked this morning .

Hopfully Ali isnt to busy and can get me in soon , I should have sorted this a while ago but had so much going on with this house.

Looking to get the Air con sorted aswell while its in I suspect its cracked pipes and perhaps 4 new A048s for summer. Dry weather seems to be coming :cheers

Thanks , I'll look into this today , hopefully nothing to serious.

Mine has done what you describe on a couple of occasions, stop/start fixes it, just the ECU getting confused.

Yota engines don't usually use any oil. I'd get that checked at the same time.

If it's not leaking it, it's burning it.

Not normally a problem, unless it's excessive TBH (when was the last time you checked it?) but as Meaty says, the Yotas tend not to use oil.

I have found (also happened on my CTR) that it uses almost no oil but once it drops to around 1/4 below Max on the dipstick it can start losing quite a lot. More technical minded amoung us might have an answer as to why?

The spark plug seals may be worth checking?

I'm not really concerned to be about the oil loss , I think the last time I checked it was the last time it was serviced .

So prob around 9k miles ago

I find myself checking my oil levels once a week or if I am not using it much as over the winter every time I take it out. I am lead to believe there is about 1 litre between max and min and it only takes a second to check. Better safe than sorry. I got a spare 5 litre of oil when I had it serviced and just keep it for any necessary top ups.

I think its a good habit to get into for the 2 mins it takes to check the dip stick and have a quick look at all your levels :thumbsup
