MX5.

OK so we bought an MX5 off ebay cos the Lotus is with SLS being fixed.

1. I see now it was probably a mistake to tell Ali I had transport and there was no hurry. :D :D

2. I should have read the instructions that came with the car because then I wouldn't have tried to take the roof down in the cold without first unzipping the rear screen, which subsequently tore a bit. And then tore a lot more when I did it again despite the fact I knew what the instructions said the second time.

So I bought a new hood off ebay and despite the fact I am mechanically incompetent tried to fit it myself and I've just finished! 4.5 hours the instructions said, only took me 14*.

I'd post a picture but I can't be arsed, it looks like a p reg mx5 with a new hood, including a rear screen bereft of sellotape and scratches. You can actually see through it, which is a bonus for the children at Millie's school who Suzy and I keep nearly mowing down trying to reverse out of parking spaces with no rear visibility.

Pete

(Just needed to tell someone and Suzy and Millie went to bed hours ago.)

*Happy provided I can get it closed (need some help because it's new), it doesn't leak and I can refit the cross bar thingy if I can un-bugger up the thread I stripped.

PS Anyone who tells you the Elise hood is hard work is talking sh*t. An S2 hood comes down damn near as fast as a MK1 MX5 and if you tear it you can replace it instantly. Not in 14 effing hours.

The roof on her MX5 takes around 3 seconds to put down adn 5 to get back up... Mind you that is a glass rear window Mk2.5 :thumbsup

Not sure whether to congratulate you or not Pete.

A bit ostentatious though to buy another sports car just because yours is off the road.

Pete, clearly you should start down the upgrade track - the MX5 can be turbo-charged quite happily ...

Cheers,
Robin

I like that bit!!! :thumbsup

Never mind all that technical mumbo jumbo. If it doesn't work your next post can begin..
"Ok so we bought an SLK off ebay cause the fabric roof on the MX5 is a pain." :D

Sort of snap...

I more or less stole my girlfriends P reg mx5 when my Lotus was with SLS being fixed ;)

I fitted a new hood to hers (lovely hood with mk2 glass window) took a couple of days, but I wasn't hurrying.

Then she bought another mx5 (older, but less miles) and wanted the hood swapped onto the other one. Luckily this simply meant removing the whole hood with frame and swapping that, took about 1 1/2 hours...

Then she sold that mx too and bought a vx. (about a month later!)

But with this one you have to stop to unzip the rear screen. Must remember that!

Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind but I've bought yet another car I'm just slightly too big for. It could use more power though (about 50% more).

Still can't get the roof up, I'm hoping some extra muscle in the shape of Nizzy will fix that.

That's an almost Wodehousian way of calling me a big puff? Fair comment, but it's mainly Mrs Pete that drives it...
