cough n splutter
Took the car out for a run today as it has not been getting used much. Was fine for a while then made a stop, when I restared the car I forgot to turn off the imobiliser (as I have done before). Anyway gets to the end of the road and I feel a slight stamer on the power in first and second gear, thought it might just have been my dodgy clutch control but no. Over the next three miles or so it gets worse, seems to be worse in low gears. It feels like crap in the carbs, that kind of starved of petrol feeling. Also noticed that my speedo was out of sync so have reset it now and its fine but dont know if the two were related. Petrol has not been in tank long so dont think its bad fuel. Its an 04 111R, suggestions welcome.

No expert on yota engines but sounds like a coil pack.

I think if its a coil pack you'd get a MIL warning. They aren't cheap so hope it isn't that.
I hope its just lack of use and a good run sorts it!
Failing that you'll be looking for someone to investigate!
I'm about to bump Yota problem back up in a mo!

Presumably you're just mentioning this in case it's related - I don't suppose the car started until you cleared the immobiliser?point n squirt wrote:Took the car out for a run today as it has not been getting used much. Was fine for a while then made a stop, when I restared the car I forgot to turn off the imobiliser (as I have done before).
Have you had any battery or alternator problems?Anyway gets to the end of the road and I feel a slight stamer on the power in first and second gear, thought it might just have been my dodgy clutch control but no. Re: cough n splutter
I had this with my Exige today as well...
Kept feeling like it was going to stall as it spluttered around the 500rpm 1000rpm mark. Hasn't been used in 4 weeks and it needs a battery charge before I took it out earlier. I'm assuming it's just cause it's not been used in a while - as it never skips a beat usually.
EDIT - took mine out tonight and feels perfect again... Just needed some love!

Yes i just mentioned it as it started straight after and speedo was out of sync. Also no major battery probs have had to put it on trickle 3 or 4 times over the winter, a charge will last aprox 9 to 14 days with out starting before having to charge it again. It did take 3 secs or so before it fired up today but it had been 8 days since last outing.

Mine is some the same at the moment i think it's down to the electrics getting wet with the rain going through the grille in the engine cover. Oh an possibly water pooling in the spark plug holes.

Re: cough n splutter
The reason I asked about the battery problems is because I didn't see how the speedo could get out of sync. On the S1, the speedo can get out of sync by the battery dying whilst the car is moving and so the speedo just sticks wherever it was at the time, IYSWIM.
However, if your battery/alternator is OK, I don't see how this can happen? Of course it *may* not be related to the splutter.
If it's reproducible I might expect there to be some codes stored in the ECU (even if the MIL isn't on). A trip to a local garage that can retrieve the codes and write them down for you might be in order.
The engine is misfiring. This is either because the spark isn't getting to the mixture, or because the mixture is completely wrong. There are some mechanical reasons this can happen (valve or piston damage), but these would tend to be persistent faults rather than intermittent. More likely you have an electrical fault on the circuits driving either the ignition or fuelling or a related sensor fault (throttle position sensor, air flow sensor, etc.).
Anyway, get the codes read (if there are any) and let's take it from there.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: cough n splutter
The out of sync prob was solved by reseting it but yes the splutter does feel like a mixture prob will get it in somewhere soon . Thanks Ian
