leaky s2

Post by ticktickboom » Fri Jan 23, 2009 1:45 pm

hey folks

my 5 year old s2 has been leaking at the top of the windows, which ive been assured is common.
has anyone any experience of this and is paying to have adjustments to the windows actually made a difference?

Thanks
Nick

Can do. As can cleaning and re-waterproofing the roof. You can get an AutoGlym kit in Halfrauds.

Also note that the adjuster will be rusted solid and you will need to replace it before you have a chance of adjusting it ...

I assume you are talking about the top left corner of the window?

Extremely common in the older S2's.. Newer cars have an extra part to the window seal that acts as a kind of pocket to catch rain and push it away - it looks as if it's part of the original frame but I imagine there will be some way to get one fitted aftermarket.

If you mean it is leaking anywhere along the middle of the window at the top then I have an easy solution!!! - get some plastic strip and black electrical tape. Quite hard to explain but basically you need to "bulk up" the rubber seal of the soft top. Do this by lying a small strip of bendy plastic (maybe 5/6mm thick... I used the chrome bumper sh!t you get from Halfords) along the seal then covering it with black tape (which is almost impossible to see after btw). This will bulk up the rubber seal enough, assuming you position it correctly, so that the window sits under it.. i.e it overhangs the window by a couple of mm's which means rain flows over rather than under it. Easy to line up - just leave the door closed with the window wound up as much as possible - and bulk up the bit of seal that is still exposed.

Doesnt look any different to the untrained eye and will stop water coming in... :thumbsup

You can buy them after market from Bell Colvil/MMC etc, but they are quite expensive.
