IIIR engine lights and recover mode
IIIR engine lights and recover mode
My 111R is still not feeling the love after Friday night - got the recovery mode thing re-set on Saturday morning, for another engine light to come on last night...whoops! (its the bottom left hand side one!)
They ran a diagnostic on Sat, and didn't seem to be any issues.
Anyone had any similar yota issues?
Serves me right for showing it no mechanical sympathy for 2 hours on Friday.

sure your pax wasn't putting "little Pierre" somewhere he shouldn't?Andy G wrote:Trust me, I don't think thats the message it was giving me when the diagnostic equipment was plugged in......closer to WTF are you doing to me!
Seems to be running fine, slightly concerned.
Worth unplugging the battery and letting the EM reset itself?
I've actually got it at work today

It does provided you don't over-rev on downshift. The toyota has a rev limiter that reduces engine speed if you hold it on the limiter - so you can bang it up to full RPM provided you shift up the moment you get there - if you hold it there it drops by ~200rpm to preserve the engine.RICHARDHUMBLE wrote:Does the warranty cover bouncing off the limiter while hooning around a track?![]()
Did you try the IT fix of taking out the battery?
The engine is very fragile above it's maximum rev limit and it is not unheard off to crack a rocker arm if you change down too aggressively. However, that leads to very noticeable rough running and an inability to rev, as well as one cylinder having a massive fuel trim compared to the other three (which shows up on the Lotus Check tool).
The over-rev will be recorded in the ECU statistics also I believe, and if there is evidence of over-revving the warranty on the engine is obviously void.
Cheers,

Part of the Yota (and Honda) VVT mechanism. It's how they vary the lift (by shifting the pivot point of the rocker)
Clever stuff.
Of course, the rover system is completely different and doesn't actually modify the lift, just the timing....
