CRP Fitting

Took rear undertray off just there to have a swatch at the CAT and work out how to remove. Looks reasonably SF apart from a) cant see how to get into 4 out of 6 of the bolts and b) the bolts look like rusty jobbies.

As my car is now in bits, does anyone know anywhere in Glasgow I can buy the new bolts / nuts tomorrow and how I get the old one off? :lol:

You may need an angle grinder or blow torch to get the old ones off!!
Be prepared for a lot of swearing and some skinned knuckles :P

Noise as made by me earlier. Already have a bloodblister on my pinky and 1 knuckle sans-skin.

Im going to do it though. Its a 2000, will the bolts be that rusty

Mines a '99 and was not too bad. Soak them over night in wd40 and a good socket set will get them off no problem.

I might not be too bad but I'd be prepared for the worst.
You don't want to end up with 4 bolts off and 2 that wont budge as you'll be completely stuck then.

Is raising the rear wheels a must? I have found a guide that I hadnt seen prior to tonights rummage around, and the guy has the car up on stands. Can I do it lying down (Cue innuendo!)? I have a full range of el spanners and tools, its what to do with them that confuses me :lol: :oops:

I changed the exhaust on mine and it was easy but I jacked mine up.
I'd recommend jacking it up for the cat too as it give you a bit more space to move. You'll need a good socket wrench (can't remember what size) for the bolts, that's about it once you've got the undertray off.

I fitted mine without it jacked up. Take the hardest to get at bolts off first, then the exhaust wont be waggling about when your smackin your knuckles on the car :lol:

I'm sure they're 15 or 16mm. Use a good quality SINGLE hex socket and hammer it on if need be. You'll need an extention too. Try and use one with a wobble end on it then you wont twist the socket off the nut when your wobbling the ratchet/extention about. Use loads of WD40 or similar.

Then get it fitted, drive it up to about 3000rpm in first and lift off and prepare for pop...bang....burble...burble..bang.....raaaaaaaaaa.

Thanks very much for the info so far, I have all the socketyratchetytype things looked out for the weekends effort - hopefully by then I will have found somewhere that has the nuts as detailed here -

JJ, i've got nuts and bolts in my toolbox at work that your welcome to. I'm sure the nuts are stainless and i'll be able to "borrow" stainless bolts from the stores. But any engineering supplier will sell them, they're only about 10p each!!

Thanks for the offer Gordon, but I looked up the "engineers suppliers" you mentioned on Yell.com and found a guy with them in stock in Glasgow. I'm impatient! Off to try and fit it.... :cry:

JJ did you get it done ok?
If you need nuts and bolts in glasgow then the best place is Fyfe and McGrowther on dobies loan near to the pits at townhead.
Another good place to remembr for bits and pieces is RS components which is in the same area.
I'm sure that you meed m10 *30 stainless bolts.

Got it done OK after a hunt for the nuts, got them from a terminally moody old man in a shop in Kinning Park. 4Sguid for washers, nuts and bolts.

The old ones literally came off almost by hand, no rust, so I assume the exhaust has been off recently.

Its sounding nice, not loud enough yet but nice!
