wet carpet under seat
Hi this is my first scottish winter with my 05 111r. ive noticed the carpets under both seats are soaked, there are no leaks at the windows doors or roof that i can find and all the other carpets are bone dry its only at the recess under the seats any ideas anyone?

Welcome.
I suspect the mods will move this to the tech section.
Previous soaking that hasn't dried out?

Should try to remember to empty your bag before you get in the car... I know a few of the oldies who have this problemJohn_Stewart wrote:Hi this is my first scottish winter with my 05 111r. ive noticed the carpets under both seats are soaked, there are no leaks at the windows doors or roof that i can find and all the other carpets are bone dry its only at the recess under the seats any ideas anyone?

Indeed, switched this to Technical.
Anyhoo, ignore the tosh above, John. Elises can leak from under the corners of the windscreen so have a look in that area of the service compartment. Sadly I reckon it's fiddly to be able to track down major leaks there and if the car is out overnight you may want to get a fullsize car cover to help instead.

I have seen later cars leak where the floors panels meet the chassis as they haven't been sealed properly. Have had to seal a few including a couple if S2 exiges.

Bin the carpets.
I had the same issue. Ali helped me whip them out. They were saturated and weighed about 5kg each
Car interior looks and smells much cleaner now, a big sponge now lives under my seat which soaks up any rain and is easy to remove/squeeze/replace.

If it is leaking in through the (missing) seal in the floorplan, it would be best to reseal it rather than rely on mopping up the water.

I had the exact same problem with the water gathering only on those carpets, the rest were fine. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it yet but the softop on the Elise isnt the most water tight (even if you cant find the leak). I fixed the problem with an eliseparts shower cap. I would recommend this if you are going to have it sitting outside more than in the garage. Its also good in the winter to keep the ice off the windscreen.
To get the carpets out, undo the front bolts attaching the seat to the floor and loosen of the ones at the back if you can. You should be able raise the seat enough to slide out the mats. I stuck mine in the washing machine, to get the smells out etc (I also had to bail out the remaining pond under the seats).
The mats should slide in the way they came out and thats you.
