Engine Worries

Post by BiggestNizzy » Tue Oct 28, 2008 10:23 pm

Maybe it's just me but when the car appears to be running ok I tend to look for the next wallet sapping failure (I suppose that is 10 year old elise ownership for you) But my car isn't idleing that well it jumps between 7-900 revs and it does feel like it is churning slightly (only slightly)

Good luck with the Emerald - I can't say I had much luck with any of the ones I've used ... it's one thing to use it for a sprint/race car where you only need full throttle from 2,000 RPM up and you don't care if it idles at 1,500 RPM ... but on a road car they are a PITA IMHO.

Niz, what's actually not working properly on your engine ... I didn't quite understand your description of it.

Cheers,
Robin

It's hard to say but little things I have noticed

Idle is a bit jumpy as I have said 7-900rpm and at low revs i.e crawling round a car park it does go a little kangaroo like.

And I would love an emerald or similar ECU but it's £££££££

Never had a problem getting them to idle properly. Depends on the cams/timing of course.

Cold start can be a bit of a pain in the arse but doesn't take too much time to sort out.

Had similar before with a T.P.S. fault but would expect to see similar problems when cruising on light throttle. Might be worth doing the throttle reset thimgy to see if that helps, bonus is it won't coat you anything.

*Cough* Megasquirt *cough*

Robin was working on a crank trigger decoder to use it with the existing pickup too, dunno how far he got.
