Silicon Wiper

Post by T6 KFR » Thu Oct 16, 2008 12:43 pm

As winter has hit us :welcome my poor old standard wiper is struggling !

I am sick of the sqeeking and lack of visability when raining.

Looked up eliseparts, but it seems I need to buy the whole wiper arm and blade.

Is there any silicon blade only I can buy and where from? Its an S2 exige I have.

Thanks

Kev

Sure it will be the same as some other manufacture of car, like a 24/26 inch of some renault espace or some minibus thing I am sure works. Sure someone will clear it up.

Totally standard fitting - 24" from memory. Almost anything you buy will fit with a universal fitting.

You can get single blades in halfrauds - or search the internet for PIAA silicone blades (as they are really good - you want a good-un as it's the only one!) Basically, if you buy a standard 24" wiper blade, it'll fit (unless it's marked for a specific car fitment, but most use the universal fitment now)

Ah, I see what you mean - it's the fitting that'll come with 99% of blades.

I had one of these on my VX, worked very well. By the way, if you're using the Demon Tweeks website, for some reason the wiper blades are £3 cheaper if you go in via the Motorsport section rather than the Modifying one :?

I'm an S1 owner with the stupid original 22 quid wiper blade type arm, so this is all just opinion...

The spoiler version has a spoiler, the theory being the wind pushes the blade down to the windscreen. If the wiper lifts from the screen (usually kinda juddering is caused) then you want one with the spoiler.
They are normally just clip on things either way. Don't think i've ever seen one on an Elise/Exige / the S1 wiper arm has a nice strong spring.

If you want a carbon effect one, I reckon you've bought the wrong car. Go trade it for a saxo ;)

I'd buy the normail one.

I tried a Halfords one and wasn't impressed. Ended up with this one and its been excellent:

And its a fiver cheaper than I paid last November. The only problem I had with it was none of the adaptors seemed to work with my wiper arm - I had to reuse the one that had held the old wiper on

Think I will try the PIAA one first, seeing there is a local stockist in aberdeen. Pop in past tomorrow lunchtime and see what is on offer.

Report back soon for those having the same problem
