Replacement Fuel Pump

Post by paulW » Mon Oct 06, 2008 10:04 am

Looking for a bit of advice regarding a replacement fuel pump.

Any idea what is available, and what is best avoided? Seen some "aftermarket" ones for about £95+VAT.
Can you fit these an retain the Stack Float Fuel Guage.

Car is currently in the Garage :(
initially thought blocked fuel filter, but no fuel pressure, so its looking like a failed pump or a blockage.

Might be as easy as changing my socks? Quite a bit of rust in the fuel filter, so these socks might have clogged up?

Walbro Fuel Pump Lotus Elise/Exige 1.8 (Motorsport Upgrade)

Walbro Fuel Pump Lotus Elise/Exige 1.8 (255LPH Motorsport Upgrade). This uprated Walbro Fuel Pump from FSE Sytec is a great fuel pump upgrade for the Lotus Elise.

As performance levels increase standard fuel pumps can struggle to cope with fuel delivery needed to develop maximum horsepower and in maintaining proper air/fuel ratios. The Walbro 255LPH In-Tank Fuel Pump upgrade replaces the factory pump to maximize flow for high power applications where the factory injector pulse duration is substantially increased or where additional or larger injectors are utilized.

wouldnt bother with the 255lph pump, only really need that in supercharged/turbo applications where bigger injectors are used.

If you ran the tank dry it may just be blocked.

you would be wise to change the pump whilst the tank is out ,as they do fail and loose pressure beforehand, if its had rust run through it its shot !
the tanks can get quite rusty inside as you will see when its removed sadly the fuel pump is expensive , but gaz on seloc has a better upgraded version ( they where off a yank car ) but still expensive
i fitted the syntac motorsport version it fits inside your old fuel pot hence retains the fuel sender however it does not use the pot as a fuel cannister ( std is a 2 stage pump, first stage fills the pot second stage takes fuel from the pot to the filter , syntac pump is direct from tank to filter ) so if you run the tank low the fuel can surge to the right leaving the pump without fuel for a moment or so ,but i have not found any problems for road use and intended to fit a forge alloy tank that is baffled however i have not required it yet
you have two choices either fit the expensive gaz upgrade pump or the syntac with a better but expensive lighter fuel tank ( either foam baffled forge or valve baffled prosport )
if your tank is very badly rusted i would replace it because apart from the pump area you cannot access the other segments
