Running a little rich.

Post by BiggestNizzy » Sun Sep 07, 2008 7:38 pm

Today I was told my car was running a little rich and the suspect seems to fall on my lambda sensor, mainly because of the trouble I had removing it from the old exhaust.
  1. Am I right ?
  2. how to I check it ?
  3. where do I get a new one ?

You can get a new one online - Campbell did some research recently and ordered a new one from somewhere - Kent Cats or something maybe?

Once the engine is warmed up you can measure the voltage over the pins and check it's working, but to be honest, if it's running rich, it probably isn't.

Cheers,

I was told a while ago AB Factors do them for ITRO £30. If you need I can borrow a 7/8" crowsfoot to get it fitted.

I eventually got round to changing the lambda sensor today.

Is there anything I have to do reset the ecu or something ? and how do you do it.

No action required, plug in the new Lambda sensor and the ECU will know the difference as it will only go into closed loop when certain conditions are met. Until the condition are met it uses the lambda sensor to monitor the AFR. If it's wildly out it ignores the sensor and runs in open loop, this protects the engine form a goosed sensor. The new one will probably be within limits and the ECU will go back to closed loop running altering the fuel ratio in an attempt to achieve optimum running conditions. Just plug it in and drive as normal. The only way to check it properly is to plug in the Lotus diagnostic tester so if you have access to one then by all means check it is working but other than that just drive. You can check it's signal with a multi-meter across the signal wire and earth but to be honest I wouldn't bother.
