Sick Engine -was wet - Now fixed - what is the best fix ?
On my way home today I lost power
lots of it. Not being an expert (or even an enthusiastic amateur) when it comes to all things engine, It sounds and feels (remember I am no expert) like it's only running on 3 cylinders as it's lumpy and it gets worse the more I open the throttle, although when I nipped out to B&Q it was doing it all the time.
Suggestions?

Revving smoothly ?
Last time airfilter was changed / cleaned ?
Gone through any big puddles that could have thrown water in to the left hand air scoop ?
Normal flow of gas out tail pipes ?(I had cat exit through zorst which caused similar loss of power)
Any probs following up to this ?
Last service ?
Good fuel ?
Do you let her run down to refill all the time ?

Spark problem. Check dizzy cap, plug leads, plugs, etc. Last time mine did that it was a wire fallen off the dizzy cap. I sh!t myself good and proper cos it started while I was at 6k rpm headed for the redline

New Oil, New Filter Oil & Air.It has been kinda wet recently though. Fuel refill started to pop up on the way home I think I will put some decent fuel in tommorow. I have had no problems recently she has been running like a wee sweetie.Sanjoy wrote:Revving smoothly ?

Spark probem is my thinking I will get up early and have a poke around (although I am not sure at what) Auto electrics are not a strong point.Rich H wrote:Spark problem. Yep check all the plug leads etc, one of mine fell of the dizzy cap after I'd changed 'em at one service, thought I'd blown the car up when I went for the shakedown run
Amazingly for me, I diagnosed the problem myself, and quite quickly, in the middle of nowhere without phoning a friend

Given the amount of rain we've been having and given that it's an S1 water in the plug bores is a very likely candidate.
Agree it's probably electrical.

Fuel pump?? When I first got my car the fuel pump was on its way out. It would run fine then all of a sudden the engine would start runing very flat with no power at all. It would clear its self after a while and start running fine again. After a trackday at knockhill it gave up completely.

I am sure someone mentioned a "fix" for this somewhere. Was it something to do with a different type of plug cover, or rocker cover altogether maybe?
When Ian sold his wee baby last week, the buyer phoned up after a day to complain about it "running rough" and it was exactly this problem too.
[Hm, in the absence of the elise-faq (where *did* it go) perhaps we now need to get going with our own SE wiki...Seloc's is quite good.]

I think maybe it was along the lines of the design of the S2 cam cover maybe?

I will do the silicon job on it tonight, The S2 cover looks the part though.

Actually it would be really interesting to see if one of these was available from a breaker's, or from someone who's "upgraded" to an Eliseparts linished one etc for their S2, and to check what fit / mods are involved in mounting on an S1 engine. Would be a great result for anyone who has to park their car outdoors.
The core cam ladder etc is probably the same on S1 and S2 K, however are there other paraphernalia for the S2 EU (3 or 4?) engine in S2s that might make it tricky or undesirable?
Anyone got any input I wonder? New thread needed?!
