Will this work ?

Post by BiggestNizzy » Wed Jul 02, 2008 11:55 am

Being on holiday is a poison chalise, I start thinking about non work related stuff and they usually ends up
  1. a disater
  2. expensive.
Here's my Idea.
Facts
  1. Throttle bodies are good
  2. I am a pikey
  3. I have access to a machine shop
If I was to take a standard aluminium plenum chamber and bore a hole on the other side and fit a second plastic* throttle body and feed it from the other side of the car will it work on a standard ECU ?

possible problems
  • ECU
  • Drop in pressure (baffle or split the plenum chamber in the middle??)
I don' see many problems in connecting it all up

*plastic throttle bodies, I would use them for there smaller diamter, as fitting the larger throttle bodies slows the speed of the air down but increases volume, fitting 2 would increase volume and keep the speed higher.

discuss ? :D

Fairly sure this has been discussed in the past.

IIRC someone (perhaps Robin, maybe Fd) pointed out a huge flaw - something to do with laws of physics that I didn't understand but took it as gosple due to the person saying it.

Glad to be off assistance :D

Still might be worth a laugh :D

reading that I recon you will have to split the plenum chamber down the middle. leaving the ECU as the problem

No point to it at all. At your state of tune it's not the TB that's the restriction, it's the ports and valves...

Fine, if you wanna prove a point, but it'll be a waste of time ;)

Don't listen to the voices of reason above (And no doubt below)
start with a VVC manifold then you have the lower half already sorted and you can work on splitting the top half. Either start with 2 VVC top halfs and cut and shut them back to back (2 IACVs then)or just fab up a new one. Its just a box with some holes in after all...

I'm normally one for not listening to the voices of reason but in this case I would. Would be a pain in the ar$e if you did all that and it never worked.
