Can s2 headlamps be opened ?

Post by Jamie84 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 9:27 pm

I am giving the car a "detail" at the weekend and Ive already prepared it tonight , Spoiler off , sidepods off , rear lights out (dodgy job) all ready for a machine polish, laugh if you may

Anyway , Ive noticed before that the inside of the lenses on my headlamps have marks on them that look like they could be removed , Also noticed some etching/scratches around one of the pods were the lamp sits :? Which is exactly the same on the other side ? Looks to me like the lense has been off before as these etches are very "human" looking as opposed to something more wear and tear, but then again its identical on other side :? weird.

Anyway can the lenses be removed ? I removed the lenses on my ford fiesta when younger to remove the orange indicator lenses 8) , That involved removing the headlamp unit and heating up the seal then prising it apart , somthing I dont fancy doing with the loti.

Car will be gleaming this weekend 8)

Jack up the front, wheels off - take out wheelarch liner then you will see the three bolts holding on the light assembly. Undo the three bolts and all will be fairly obvious, the clear bit is seperate from the black plastic body.

Easy to do...didn't have to jack it.

Be careful if you're touching the silvered coating on the lens assembly though - a finger and soft cloth with no pressure removed bits of mine in seconds....

You have to jack the exige, not enough space with the wheel on.

Okay so i got the headlamp unit out no problem , the clear cover appeares to be bonded on to the black inside part .

I am gonna heat up the glue and staney blade them apart , anyone recommend somthing to stick them back together ?

Am I opening a can of worms ?

So you aren't meant to do that then

Why?

How else are you meant to get the mud out of it, the only thing i saw her doing wrong was she didn't lift up one side with a farm jack so the water runs out of the door. But it is a saxo so that might not a be a good idea as they don't have jackable sills

I've actually changed my lights 4 times on the Exige.. Never had to jack it up once (although it is fiddly). Turn wheel on full lock and use a small screwdriver - easy job tbh :thumbsup

Screw at the top - two at the bottom.. Liner out - then 3 alan key bolts on the headlamp.

Oh and the "scratches" are normal - stress cracks just from the heat of the lights :thumbsup

Massive can of worms - don't do it mate..

Squeeze a cloth through and then use a screwdriver (for example) to wipe it. :thumbsup
