Just setting up the ride height on my car 120 f 125 r . Manual calls for setting it at the front and rear of the chasis siderail . At the front thats ok but at the back its covered by the sill .

So question is where do you measure the ride height from ? The rear of the sill ? Which may not be consistent as its fitted plastic . The rear undertray sides , mounting points are consistent ?

Just measure it from the sill. Pick a flat bit

If you can get to the siderail, use it (which you can at the front)

what about making a piece of wood the correct length adjust it until the wood just touches et voila. it should be easier to get in with a comparator than a rule, and if your piece of wood is out slightly then it will be the same both sides

That is what I have done . I have a square that is 120mm and I have made up a height gauge . May not be bob on but both sides will be the same.

Will have to start again tomorrow as I forgot the ballast and ended up with 115 , 125 and it handles like a roller skate . Will raise the front up .

Nizzy how did you get on with your diy rig ? I may need to tweak the toe.

Will get a full geo done once I have the ride height and corner weights sorted ( watch this space ) .

Decided it was about time to spend some money and gave up

I made a rig out of chrome tubing from B&Q. 2 x 2.4m lengths and some thin string. Set it all up using a vernier caliper. Cost about £15 all up and have used it a few times, after every time I change the ride height. If you took the time you could weld locating lugs onto the tubes and it would be simple to drop on anytime. Spoke to Mark Hutchinson about it and it's what he uses all the time as he recons it's way more accurate than commercial alignment equipment. Will set it up on the car tomorrow and take some pictures if I have time.

You can measure the rear ride height at the jacking points; for a flat chassis, it'll obviously be the same height there as at the back; for a chassis with rake, you need to tweak - if you want "120/125" then aim for "120/123" and it'll be about right.

In the end it's just about getting a repeatable measure, and the jacking point is easiest place to get that from.

That makes sense , more consistant than the way I was doing it .

I made an impulse ebay purchase this evening so will have the correct rig next week if required .
