OBDII Code Readers

Hi

Frequently there are references on here to locating a code reader to diagnose the cause of a MIL light, in view of this I 'Ebayed' diagnostic code readers and was surprised to see they were available rather cheaply. Would any code reader be suitable or are there specific requirements?
Are there commercially available readers suitable to display the fault codes generated by our ECUs?
Can anyone recommend a 'good buy'?

Mick

Any OBD2 compliant reader will work on the S2 K-series and Toyota engine'd cars. S1 uses a pre-standard interface that won't respond to the normal OBD2 tools IIRC.

Robin

Do you, or anyone else, recommend any one in particular?

Sorry, I don't have one and cannot remember the name of the ebay special that I used a couple of years back. These days I use the force ;-)

They all do the same thing, decide if you want a stand alone unit or one which connects to a laptop :thumbsup
