What do I need to stop the pads rattling?

Post by jj » Mon May 02, 2005 2:58 pm

My front pads are rattling slightly, and its doing my head in....

I am sure I read a way of curing it but now cant find it.

Any Ideas anyone?

Big fecking hammer

Nah, pop into Murray glasgow and get the gormless spotty desk oik to order you some 'front brake anti rattle buffers' They are wee sticky-on pads that go in the calipers, buffering (hence the name) the pads, which are loose in the caliper and on their locating pins. Cost you pennies.

Don't bother with eliseparts alternatives, which are slightly cheaper, but simply don't work. The don't stick to anything, so will fall off before you've got the wheels back on.

Buffers

Post by jj » Mon May 02, 2005 3:32 pm

So I need some gay-sounding "buffers".

So what do I do with them once I have got them? I am not the worlds finest mechanic, is it something I should attempt or not.....

I have to go in and pick up the parts for fixing my window tomorrow so i`ll order some then. That`ll be 3 weeks in a row they have had parts coming in for me on a Friday, I`m starting to think this could be an expensive exercise....!

Remember and clean the area like buggery - to ensure a good bond :)

Just about the easiest job you can do on the Elise :)

Gareth, do you have a partnumber or something for these?

When I went in to buy the clear lenses, the guy said they wouldn`t fit atall on the back, so I am not sure he would know much about these buffers.

No part number I'm afraid but the guy at MMC knew what I was talking about when I asked.

Pretty sure they are a common fit thing. If he looks confused (what do I mean, 'if'?!) then tell him to phone Pauline at Edinburgh - she knows what the feck she's talking about.

Do these have to be replaced everytime the pads are changed or can they be reused? :)

Hey guys Im nw to this place and Im glad I found it. Goit a bit of a saga going on with my elise...youl find out in time. I think the discs rattle because you have slghit warping of your discs...does is make a droning noise when you brake really hard from 70? Mine does this has slowly increased..it was due to warped discs....got them skimmed much better but not perfect.
cheers

Are these the same buffers tha stop the klonking when braking in reverse as the pads shift? Mine does that. Might have to get some....
