Removing Wheels

Post by sam » Mon Apr 07, 2008 12:12 pm

Not really a very tech question but anyway.....

In my little tool kit (oh er) I see the bit that slots into the wheel bolts but dont see anything that will attach to that to give me leverage (spelling), is it kept somewhere else in the car?

You'll need a 17mm socket and ratchet or similar. There's no other "tools" in the car

OK thanks for that,
Seems silly that you are provided with half the kit to get the wheels off..... :?

the justification for that is that you dont have a spare wheel, so why give them a tool to remove it!

didn't get 'em with my S1, just the allen key and locking wheel nut key, oh and the crap plastic thing that breaks/gets stuck on the nuts for removing the locking nut covers - not recommended if your wheels are only painted black, many scratches result :(

Are they not for stereo removal then?

Change the locking wheel nuts.

One day they will get stuck and cause a world of pain and suffering. In fact Lotus S1 locking wheel nuts are thought to be responsible for the war in Iraq.

I bought some decent ones from Lizparts for £25 and sold my locking wheel nuts (Complete with crap placcy tool) for £17.

Thanks, but I beat you to it (or at least your advice). I already have Elise parts 25 quid wheel nuts on my car, never thought about selling the locking nuts mind. I broke the plastic remover part trying to take the damn things off to fit the normal nuts, and scratched lots of the paint on my passenger front trying to get the broken part off... :(

They need powercoated anyway, but that'll likely be a good while from now since the car is getting friendly with SLS Ali's garage at the moment - and probably for the next couple of weeks :(
