Have I warped my brake discs?

Post by jamiey » Sun Mar 30, 2008 10:24 pm

I'd Left the Elise for a wee while after driving back form St Andrews.

Hadn't been driving that had and had driven through town so the brakes shouldn't have been too hot.

Got in to drive it, the discs were a bit rusty, when pulling away there was a loud clunk from the front.

Now when I apply the brakes there is a pulsing from the pedal, which varies in strength with speed.

Have I shagged the disks? If so how? I've done the same for years.

I'm sensing a trip to Ali is on the cards (especially as the driving light bracket looks like it's cried enough and the clam (still) needs repaired and re-sprayed. In short I need to give it some loving.)

I doubt they'll warp at that.

I get this sometimes and it's just a build up of crap on the discs. Work them hard (I left foot brake and hold the throttle open a bit) and that clears it on mine.

It's worse if that car's left with wet discs. Give them a good roasting and then see

Probably not - it's the patch of rust that built up around the pad while stationary. Give the brakes a spanking and when you put the car away, try and do it with warm or better yet hot brakes.

Cheers,

I had the same as well, like RICHARDHUMBLE said a bit of rough love will do the trick. Mine were quite bad and took a wee while to clear.

Also works the other way....when cleaned (ie after using a lot) they judder under load due to the drill holes on the disk????

As always....I'm probably wrong???

Mine were doing the same at the weekend, dug the VX out after about 4 months "hibernation..." and the rust seems to be really bedded in. Might have to take them off and get the wire brush on the drill...

Be careful when driving with left foot on brake and right on throttle... I did that last time I was trying to "dry" my brakes in a car park before putting it away and ended up up a bank when my foot slipped off the brake ;) So I've ended up with a burst clam and my brakes are STILL dodgy.

Sometimes you're lucks just not in :blackeye

Hmm had a wee run down to Mountain Cross and back.

Tried left foot braking, some rapid slows and could smell a little bit of hot brakes.

Still juddering.

I'll get 'em checked out just to be on the safe side.

Was a fabulous evening for a run.

Thanks for all the help guys
