Another tyre thread

Post by meatball » Sun Mar 02, 2008 2:47 pm

Howdy all,

I had my rear exige tyres replaced in sept with Toyo R888's.
Since then I've done 3 track events, 1 at Ingleston and two Walshy days.
Total mileage 4k.
Tread is now between 2-3mm (ie they will not see out the month).

I had expected more miles from them.......am I being silly?

Anyway, time to phone Ronnie me thinks!
The fronts are gubbed too, but I have spares at Jintys.

Mac, do you want some spares for autotesting?

Suspect the Walshy days knock chunks out of them even more than trackdays - not unusual

Let me see here....
3 track days....

Road use, and you've still got 2-3mm left?

Do you want an honest answer to that?

I don't think I may have helped his tyres during the Walshy days !

Thankfully my tyres appear to have survived two days with Walshy..

I think I read that the R888s wear faster than AO48's, I only mention this because R888's aren't on these charts but the AO48's are. This is a link to "NHTSA Tyre Ratings - Traction, Temperature & Wear" on etyres.com. Pretty interesting to see how the tyres that are discussed on these forums "officially" rate...

Just choose the tyre brand at the top. When looking at wear this is what they grade it on...

"A control tyre is assigned a grade of 100. Other tyres are compared to the control tyre. For example, a tyre grade of 200 should wear twice as long as the control tyre. "

48's will wear way quicker than 888's as they are a softer compound, although they have just launched an R888 super soft.

Meatball - you mincer! I reckon your tyres have done you proud, infact maybe pointing out that you've been in a straight line a bit too often for my liking
